Jawan

Jawan (transl. Soldier) is an Indian Hindi-language action thriller film released in 2023. It marks Atlee's debut in Hindi cinema, co-written and directed by him. The production is overseen by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma under Red Chillies Entertainment. The movie features Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role, portraying a father and son with uncanny resemblance, joining forces to combat societal corruption. Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone (making a special appearance), Priyamani, and Sanya Malhotra take on supporting roles.

The principal photography kicked off in September 2021, with scenes shot across Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Rajasthan, and Aurangabad. Anirudh Ravichander composed the film's soundtrack and background score, while G. K. Vishnu handled cinematography, and Ruben was in charge of editing. Certain scenes were re-shot simultaneously for the Tamil version, focusing on Khan's appearance in the song "Zinda Banda" ("Vandha Edam" in Tamil), Sethupathi's segments, and sequences featuring Yogi Babu.

Originally slated for release on June 2, 2023, the film's debut was delayed due to pending post-production work. It eventually hit theaters on September 7, 2023, in standard, IMAX, 4DX, and other premium formats, coinciding with Janmashtami. Jawan garnered positive feedback from critics, who lauded the performances, screenplay, action sequences, and musical score. The movie shattered several box office records in its opening weekend and first week, surpassing those previously held by Khan's earlier release, Pathaan (2023). With a staggering gross of ₹695 crore (US$87 million), it claimed the title of the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 and the ninth highest-grossing Indian film overall.
